High School
In the 2005-2006 school year HSSIS will have ninth and tenth grades. In the fall of 2007 we will have an eleventh grade class and in 2008, we will have our first graduating senior class.
The Henry Street School's high school graduation requirements are:
- 4 years of English
- 4 years of social studies
- 3 years of math (1 year may be technology)
- 3 years of science (1 year may be technology)
- 2 years of physical education, 1 year of art
- 0.5 years of health
- 3 years of expert study in a world language (6 years for those entering The Henry Street School as 6th graders) plus an introductory course to studying languages
- 120 hours of community service/internship
- a culminating project or performance reflecting in-depth research, analysis and synthesis of ideas.
The latter three requirements, which exceed the requirements for a Regents diploma, directly address three core tenets of the school's mission which call for each HSSIS graduate to become proficient in one or more world languages and an expert on one or more world cultures or global problems; to develop the awareness, interest and capacity needed for a career in an internationally oriented profession; and to participate responsibly and ethically as a global citizen, help solve the world's challenges and take a leadership role in creating new opportunities for the betterment of humankind.
