International Career Day
On Friday, April 22, in addition to celebrating Earth Day, HSSIS students were offered the chance to explore how an international education can benefit them through a school-wide International Career Day. All day students were able to choose from different career speakers, who demonstrated the international aspects of their career. One of their favorites was DJ Blue, who encouraged students to pursue a college degree while trying to make it in the music business since it can be a long process and in meantime one has to eat! He also explained that he prefers hip-hop because it is an encompassing form of music—salsa beats or classical rifts can all be mixed into it.

The students were able to request careers to be represented and one of the most requested was a mortician. He explained that it is an age-old career, starting with mummification. A journalist shared her portfolio and in answer to a student’s question about the international aspects of her career, she said that she had interviewed Yankee player Hidekei Matsui. She explained that because of Matsui and other Japanese players, many American journalists now have to realize that they are also writing for a Japanese audience since many of their stories are picked up there. Other speakers included a detective, representatives from MTV and PBS, and many others.
