Hello, my name is Shawn Persaud. I am an English teacher at The Henry Street School, but I am much more than just a teacher. I am involved in many of the schools extra-curricular projects and work very hard to help all my students become better writers and readers. I was raised in Brooklyn, and went to Pace University and the University of Illinois where I studied English and Education. Students who enter my class will always leave having learned something new that day, guaranteed. I run a fun classroom where we get our work done and learn from each other. Teaching is what I do and I hope to have the chance to see you in my classroom soon.
Our year together will included science fiction, memoir, non-fiction and
poetry. We will learn how to use Microsoft Word, Internet search engines,
and PowerPoint. The class is heavy on writing and editing in the first
semester, followed by independent reading and presentations in the second.
A student autobiography is produced in the third semester and student poetry
in the fourth. Our class will discuss issues as they relate to global and
local themes and develop critical thinking and analytic skills appropriate
to grade level. Students will also create and maintain communications with
students in other cities such as Charlotte, North Carolina and Provo, Utah.
You will not be the same once you have had a chance to discover who you are
in my classroom.
